Open Question: who has influenced you most in your life- (but you've never met?)?

which person, or persons, have had the most influence on you, other than family and friends. and how? mine would be- john peel, who introduced me to about 90% of the music i adore ( an amazing radio dj, who died a few years ago) and -weridly- probably enid blyton. her books are filled with people talking about the 'right' way to behave- ie- being decent, truthful, honest and nice etc. i absorbed it from infancy. from 40s films- which seemed CONSTANTLY to be on tv when i was growing up, i learned how to walk gracefully, dress (i adore vintage clothes), and have some poise (rather than sprawling about and shuffling as i want to).. and from too much film watching, book reading, ive had a live long expectation that Adventure is Just Around the Corner. (its not, but im TOTALLY ready, if it comes).

Open Question: Are Catholic priests using any opportunity they can get to improve their public image?

Did you look the news a couple of days ago about that horrific discovery in France of that lady who murdered 7 of her possess new born babies? It was a shocking story. Apparently this French lady lived in several rental properties over the last few years and at one of the properties where she used to live, the new tenants were digging in the garden and they found tiny bones. They called the cops and sure enough, they were human baby bones. The cops quickly found a suspect and searched the gardens of other houses where she lived and found more tiny bones buried in the garden. They were every newborns, murdered when they were only a few minutes old. Apparently, the lady was quite big and the husband claimed he was not even aware his wife was pregnant let alone that she was killing her babies. Anyway, on the news report I saw, there was this local priest who decided to use this opportunity to put on an act of caring about human life. He went to the properties were they found the bodies and lit candles and made sure the news cameras were filming him as he did so. What a phony, right? I mean, the Catholic Church has so much blood on its hands and has shown complete disregard for human life for centuries. The Catholic Church is a corrupt and decadent criminal organization that chooses to protect profits over protecting kids. And here is this slimy bastard putting on an act for the TV cameras. Doesn’t it make your blood boil to look these reptiles getting away with this blatant charade?

Open Question: The name of an older Arthouse Movie based on a reality tv show?

I am trying to find the name of a movie I watched early 2001-2001 (not sure how old the movie itself was). It was something to do with random social security numbers being drawn and if yours was drawn you're in a reality type game where whoever lives is the winner. You don't have a choice about playing because if you don't play, you'll be killed by one of the other contestants. I think there was a pregnant lady in it and from memory, towards the end, they were (the ones that were still alive) were in a big shopping mall. It's filmed like it's the actual show you are watching and it's played out amongst normal, everyday life. That's every I can remember - if you have any idea of the name and can let me know, I'd appreciate it!! Thanks

Open Question: How to add subtitles in Divx Plus Converter to be played through USB on HD TV?

I have a DIVX HD tv and I've downloaded Divx Plus Player on my computer to transfer movies from my pc to usb so that i can watch it on my tv. Now, I have two queries: 1.) So far, I've directly copy-pasted movies from my pc to the usb and played it on my tv, since they are DVDRIPS and i don't need any convertor.. yet, i look in the convertor that it says it will convert it to Hi-Def? Does it really work? I ask this.. because while it says it will increase its ratio to 1080p it size instead reduces.. where the actual rip is 800mb.. the processed 1080p is shown to be 500mb? I want to know if it really turns hd that way.. 2.) The movies(dvd rips) that i transfer from my pc to the usb do not show the subtitles when i play them on my tv? Can anyone help me with this? how do I add subtitles in the film or in the video such that it shows on my tv? --- I have a LG LD460.. 42'. thank you. That is far from what my question is, Lucy. That is far far FAR from what my question is, Tasha!!

Open Question: Are Terminators supposed to blink when they fire a weapon?

In the Terminator films and the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series, are Terminators supposed to blink when they flame a weapon? Personally I wouldn't have thought so because they aren't human, but some of them do if you look carefully. Is this an mistake made by the film-makers/actors?

Open Question: The beginning of my story. What do you think?

I sat on the stage. This was it. I looked up into the crowd I could look my dad, Mathew and his husband Billy in the second row, sat with Ashleigh and Jordan my two best friends and their mum Deanna and Dad Michael. I looked round the audience; thousands of faces every stared back. I took a quick look at the judges and immediately regretted it as another wave of nausea washed through my body. There were about six or seven cameras every pointing at me and another on a wire suspended over me. There would be millions of people every across Britain sitting watching their TV screens watching me. I couldn’t mess this up. The only light was on Josh McQueen, presenter of ‘Catch a Falling Star’ ‘And now ladies and gentlemen, some say leave the best until last but I’ll let you be the judge of that. Please put your hands together for Lexi Smith!’ He announced. There was a thunderous applause around me, I was so glad I was sitting on the piano stool or I’m pretty sure my knees would have buckled and I would be on the floor. As Josh walked off the stage he gave me an encouraging grin and winked. The light shifted and was now on me. You can do this I told myself. I place my hands on the keys of the black, grand piano that sat in front of me and let them take over. As the first note of Ronan Keatings ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’ I felt myself relax. This was the tune I had sung in my audition and confident I could win with it. ‘Catch a Falling Star’ is a new reality TV talent show. Everyone that applied had to do an audition in front of the three judges. Then we were clip down to 21. Seven for each judge, we then had to sing again for our mentor with a tune of their choice before being clip down to three for each judge and making it to the live stages. To enter ‘Catch a Falling Star’ you have to be able to sing, dance and act. It was open to anyone aged 16 and over and the winner won a recording contract and second place won a place in a West End Show. To say relief washed through me was a bit of an understatement. every the judges were on their feet including Steven Dennis, owner of one of the biggest record labels in Britain. He was standing in the middle between Jessica Henry, manager to some of the biggest pop groups ever, and Sophie Leighton, one of the prettiest, pop singers around today, who was managed by Jessica and Steven, produced her singles. The applause finally died down and Josh was at my side. ‘Okay we’ll go to Sophie first.’ I could look why everyone thought she was pretty. She had jet black, straight hair and intense green eyes. She was every guys dream girl. ‘Lexi, Lexi, Lexi that was absolutely spectacular.’ She gushed. ‘I must admit you’ve been my favourite every the way through, you just have that extra something. You have to win it with that.’ The crowds went wild with that response. ‘Thank you Sophie; Jessica?’ Jessica was in her tardy 50s with a short hazel brown bob, eyes that were nearly the same colour as her hair, she had crow’s feet, and lines round her mouth thanks to her 40 a day habit. ‘If you don’t win tonight then I am a man.’ She declared. The crowds erupted again. ‘Being honest you were probably terrified at the beginning and you were off key in the first 30 seconds but after that you seemed to relax and like it.’ ‘Thank you and finally Steven?’ ‘The reason I kept you in the competition was because I honestly believed you could win it, and I stand by that. The thing that makes you special is I don’t think you truly know how good you are. You are amazing and have done me and every your family proud tonight. Well done.’ The crowd’s screams and applause drowned out what Josh was saying even thought he was standing right beside me. The cameras were back on me. I hadn’t noticed the tears that were streaming down my cheeks. ‘Very impressive comments there Lexi, what would you like to say?’ Josh asked holding the microphone in front of my mouth. ‘I always thought I was an average singer, more of a drama queen.’ The audience laughed; even I managed a wet grin. ‘And even when I stood on the stage tonight I still believed that but maybe I was wrong. Oh and can I quickly say thanks to Steve for believing in me and getting me this far; to Jessica and Sophie for their comments each week; my family and friends for their support i adore you; everyone that votes for me each week, they have no idea how much it means to me; and every the people that do an amazing job backstage,’ I babbled as quick as I could. Open Question: Film acting tutors? Help?

I have been acting (film/tv acting not theatre) for about 3 in a half years now and I'm getting serious with it i have an agent and a manager in L.A. but their not big time managers. I'm still a beginner because i haven't auditioned for many important things, only about 2 to 3 things. And i know in the industry you have to stand out and be good with your skills. I want to receive an acting tutor, not a class because the classes are so expensive and i don't learn as much because they don't specifically sit down with me and show me what i need to improve on. I know there are film acting tutors out there, like ones you can meet once every 2 weeks to improve your skills. I emphasize FILM acting tutor because film is very different from theatre, their body language is 100% different, and I want to increase my chances in succeeding in the film industry. If anyone knows where I could find any good film acting tutros thats affordable that would be great! I live around the upper east coast area.

Resolved Question: Do the Tolkien Trust and Saul Zaentz sue Rankin-Bass for plagiarizing the "Lord of the Rings" rights?

Look, I'm not talking about the Tolkien Estate's and Saul Zaentz's lawsuits against New Line, which made the "Lord of the Rings" books into movies in conjunction with Peter Jackson; here I'm taking about them filing a lawsuit against Rankin-Bass in the 1980s for making "The Hobbit" and the final volume of the LOTR trilogy, "The Return of the King," into cartoon TV specials without their permission. I do find the Rankin-Bass adaptations interesting, along with Ralph Bakshi's adaptation (don't hate me!) which was produced by Saul Zaentz himself, but I really do like Peter Jackson's film version. I know you thought the Rankin-Bass versions (and the Bakshi one) were very terrible, but was the Rankin-Bass company sued by Zaentz and the Estate over the Hobbit/LOTR rights and for "butchering" the books? I was just wondering.

Open Question: What is the film where there is a car in a swimming pool then filled with concrete?

All I can remember is that in the film this guy has to hide something (maybe a body I think but I could be wrong.) and to hide the evidence he has it in the car in the pool and has the builders fill it up with concrete. Must be an old film because it must be at least 10 or more years since I saw it and even then it was on day time TV.

Resolved Question: Animation School?????? :)?

Hi! My twin sister and I both plan on going to college for animation. The only problem is, we are torn between going to a FILM school or an ART school. We want to be animators for adult animated tv shows- (Family Guy,Futurama,King of the Hill) , and we would also like to eventually become staff writers, or even develop and create our possess shows. So on one hand, we would like to go to a film school, because we might learn more about the storytelling aspect of animation. But we hear that film school can make you waste a lot of time on academic classes, which we would hate to do, and we also figure that we could just take workshops on screenwriting, instead of spending lots of time having it as a minor. Also, an art school sounds good, because the students are so diverse, and the unique approach to animation would be interesting, and they may pay more attention to the visual aspect of animation. Mostly, we just want a school that would give us a very well-rounded education on every the aspects of animation, screenwriting, character design, and anything to do with creating shows- (Like character development, etc.) We don't have to worry about the tuition of the school we go to, (Our parents are paying for it.) so that's really not a factor in deciding what's best. We are both extremely devoted to becoming the best of the best and want to become the greatest female show creators ever! We are both really good at drawing and writing, and we take our futures very seriously, so the amount of work isn't a factor either. Thanks so much for your answers! :) ~Ellie and Rinny

Open Question: Does this sound like HPPD?

Ever since taking a few varieties of hallucinogenic drugs, 2c-e, various compounds found in pills (you can never tell) things like DXM and DPH (cough syrup and benadryl - don't judge, I just want to know if it's HPPD) It seems like there's a transparent film of TV static on every flat surfaces, along with visual disturbances such as, for a split second I'll look solid black specs that disappear when I look at them, or seeing bugs in the corner of my vision that won't be there when I look. Also, anything I look at starts to stretch/skew, as in, it will look like it's below the surface of water, sort of.. Another thing, If I'm watching a television show, and quickly look at the wall beside the television, there will be the TV character's face super-imposed on the wall, and it will fade eventually or when I look away. If I look at something like a painting, or a seat, and look at a blank wall, there will be a negative image - for example, If I look at a painting made up of a lot of red, and look at a wall, there will be the painting's image in blue, and it will fade away.. similar to looking at a bright light and then at a wall. Is this HPPD?

Each week every the contestants would sing, act (a scene from a West End Show, TV show or film) and perform a choreographed dance routine that the contestants (with a little help from a professional) had choreographed I played the ending chords to ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’ and looked up into the audience. A thunderous applause erupted around me; everyone seemed to be on their feet. I spotted my dad and Billy they both had smiles from ear to ear. Josh read my number and I made my way of

Open Question: What jet li film is this?

I remember seeing this film on TV as a kid, and have been (unsuceffully) searching for it for years. I thought I found it about a year ago, a movie called "Hitman" (also known as "The Contract Killer") but it wasn't this. Basically, Jet li is again a contract killer. His hair is slicked back and he wears sunglasses. There is a crucial part in the film when he is meant to kill some guy, he is scoped in on him about to do it, then the target's kids run up to their dad (the target) and hug him etc. Jet Li then cannot fulfill the job (he doesn't wanna kill the kill in front of his kids), and he decides he no longer wants to be a contract killer. The relax of the movie is, I think, about Jet Li's boss not letting him quit the trade and thus hunting him down. I think that's a semi-correct description, but It was a long time ago I saw the movie (could be 5 years, could be 10 years, could be more). Really can't remember. Who ever gives me the correct title first gets best answer. Thanks :) Reminder for those of you who never read the description properly, IT IS NOT CALLED "HITMAN" OR "THE CONTRACT KILLER".

Open Question: Are there any suggestions of TV Shows?

I live in the UK and none of the TV Shows that I like are being aired until like Christmas or next year so I need something to keep me occupied. I like Vampire Diaries, Glee and Doctor Who, the films that I'm looking forward to are Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (I know that they arrive out in two parts). Have you got any suggestions? I don't watch things like Soaps, e.g Eastenders, Corranation road, One Tree Hill etc ... etc ... Please cure my boredom.

Open Question: Old Oregon Trail Movie (possibly disney)?

There was a movie that played on the Disney Channel in the 90s about a high school history class that went on a trip to the Oregon Trail. I think the students had to take on different historical roles in the movie and some of the students might have gotten lost along the way but were later rescued by helicopter. I'm not sure if this was a made-for-TV movie or a feature film but I really want to know what the title is. The movie wouldn't be too old; probably filmed in the 80s at the latest. Thanks for any help!

Open Question: What is the best TV to buy for watching films on?

Last night I watched a film on my friends 32" Sony TV (which I'm assuming was a Sony Bravia). I could not receive over the brilliance of the picture and now I am determined I am going to receive something just as good. I'm a big film watcher and just want to know what people would recommend as the best TV to receive for watching films on. There's a very decently priced LG 26" TV on dixons.co.uk which has a contrast ratio of 50,000 however Dixons also do a 26" Sony Bravia for £289.99... I'm wondering whether the picture on the Bravia would be that much better than the LG. I understand that the Bravia has 24P Playback which is good for films... I need a bit of advice really. I would be very grateful :D N.B I'm not going for anything bigger than 26" as it won't fit in my room!!

I remember watching a film ages ago on the TV. I don't know what the title was, but it was showing on Film4. It definitely had Brad Pitt in it. He was like a hillbilly or something. He had a wife and I remember him traveling around with another couple. I think I remember him killing someone in a public bathroom too. If you know the name of it, then thank you in advance.

Open Question: Title of made-for-TV supernatural film?

I believe this was a made-for-TV film from the mid-to-tardy 90s (or early 2000s), and I can't remember who was in it, but there was a girl, two boys, a man, and a lady in it (one of the boys is the pal of the son, but I think the others were a family). They were on a road trip and ended up in a ghost town in Utah, and would walk through empty wooden buildings set alongside a dirt road. One of the boys always carried a video camera with him and recorded everything and eventually he (or the son) ended up being the first to disappear. There is a scene when the dad and one of the boys were out in the desert walking over glass (which resulted from an atomic bomb falling in Utah and turning the sand to glass) because they were searching for a way out, but they always ended up coming back to the same place. There were also scenes in a junkyard because whenever someone would steer there, their cars inevitably stopped working and the people would become trapped. If I remember correctly, you never look the "monster", but a lot of supernatural events keep occurring. In the end (spoiler...) they receive brainwashed (or their bodies receive possessed or something similar) and end up staying in the ghost town, replacing the previous occupants who had also been brainwashed. Does anyone know the title of this film? (This is not The Hills Have Eyes.) Yes! Disappearance, that's it, perfect! Thank you so much, it was bothering me terribly.
